Channel Islands National Park encompasses five remarkable islands and their ocean environment, preserving and protecting a wealth of natural and cultural resources. Isolation over thousands of years has created unique animals, plants, and archeological resources found nowhere else on Earth and helped preserve a place where visitors can experience coastal southern California as it once was.
National Park Service Director Chuck Sams joined the Chumash Indian community paddle across the Santa Barbara Channel on August 10. The community paddle highlights the continuing of the cultural tradition of crossing the channel as the Chumash’s did for thousands of years.
A new art exhibition called “Fluid Moments: The Art of Surf” by local artist Brett Bednorz, known as Zrondeb, is available for public viewing until August 23, 2024, at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center in Ventura, CA.
VENTURA, Calif., - The 2024 California Coastal Art & Poetry Contest will be on exhibit through June 24, 2024, at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center in the Ventura Harbor. Ten winners (five in art, five in poetry) and 40 honorable mentions, including students from Goleta and Los Angeles, were selected out of more than 2,407 entries from California’s kindergarten through 12th grade students. Special events will be offered during the month of June at the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center to celebrate the exhibit in conjunction with World Oceans Day.
Channel Islands National Park invites the public to upcoming special events to celebrate National Park Week during the week of April 21-28, 2024. The events are free and will feature family-friendly activities, ranger-led talks, junior ranger programs, beach cleanups, and more. All events are at 1901 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor
