Youngsholm on a day of a Commissioning Ceremony in 2015
Throughout his life, Charles Young overcame countless obstacles in his ascent to prominence. In spite of overt racism and stifling inequality, Young rose through the military ranks to become one of the most respected leaders of his time. A well-rounded man with a steadfast devotion to duty, Young led by example and inspired a generation of new leaders.
The historic home and museum at Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument will be temporarily closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, starting July 1, 2024. The home and museum will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The museum includes exhibits on the life and legacy of Brigadier General Charles Young, the third African American graduate of West Point and the highest-ranking African American officer in the U.S. Army until his death in 1922, and the Buffalo Soldiers from 1866 through the Korean War.
Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument is proud to announce the reopening of the historic Young family home on Monday, April 15, 2024, after completing an over two-year $3.1 million dollar restoration.
