Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park
Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania is now characterized by dynamic landscapes as well significant Civil War battles that took place on the same ground
Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania, this is America's battleground, where the Civil War roared to its bloody climax. No place more vividly reflects the War's tragic cost in all its forms. A town bombarded and looted. Farms large and small ruined. Refugees by the thousands forced into the countryside. More than 85,000 men wounded; 15,000 killed--most in graves unknown.
On March 24, 2025, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP will begin a maintenance project to repave the Chatham parking lot and to rehabilitate road surfaces throughout the battlefields. Chatham may be inaccessible to vehicles while the project is ongoing. The resurfacing of parks roads will leave sections of the roadway unsuitable for bicyclists for at least three months.
Effective the week of January 6-12, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park will establish a parkwide speed limit of 25 miles per hour for all traffic on park roads to increase overall public safety within the park.
Beginning this week through Sunday, March 2, 2025, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park will operate under a reduced winter schedule.
