The center of Confederate manufacturing fueled a modern war, one of the South’s largest hospitals gave care to the sick and wounded, and armies battled on open fields and in miles of defensive earthworks. From 1861 to 1865, Richmond’s fate would determine America’s future.
The National Park Service plans to conduct a prescribed burn at Richmond National Battlefield Park in late March to early April, subject to weather conditions and other factors. The burn will take place on approximately 90 acres of park property at Malvern Hill in Henrico County.
Richmond National Battlefield Park will commemorate the 1781 British raid on Richmond from Thursday January 2nd through Sunday January 5th 2025 in partnership with St. John’s Church Foundation, Henrico Public Libraries, and Henrico Recreation and Parks.

The National Park Service (NPS) announces the availability for public review of documents comprising the updated Administrative Record File, now including the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Report Addendum, for the selection of a removal action at the Fort Darling Landfill Site, located in Richmond National Battlefield Park, Virginia.
On Saturday, November 2, Richmond National Battlefield Park will commemorate the anniversary of the 5th United States Colored Troops (USCT) voting in the 1864 presidential election at Fort Harrison. “Election Day 1864: Black Soldiers Vote on the Front Lines” will include park ranger-led programs, living history and educational activities from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fort Harrison visitor center (8761 Battlefield Park Road, Richmond VA).
