Virgin Islands National Park will host a meeting on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5:45 PM to 6:45 PM as part of the park’s regularly scheduled public meetings.
Virgin Islands National Park invites the local communities of St. John and St. Thomas to a public meeting to be held at the new Resources Management and Science conference room the evening of November 13, at 5:45 PM local time. This meeting’s topic is a follow up of the July 10 meeting about the new online Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) application process issued by National Park Service entities. Virgin Islands National Park will be putting the new CUA policy into effect in January 2025.
Virgin Islands National Park welcomes international volunteer Mr. Samuel Acquaah, head of Education Department of Ghana Museums and Monuments Board and Officer-in-Charge of the historic Christianborg Castle, or Osu Castle. He has worked for the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board for 13 years and managed Osu Castle for 8 years. Mr. Acquaah’s official position at Virgin Islands National Park is in the capacity of an International Volunteer-In-Parks (IVIP) in the park’s newly reorganized Volunteer-In-Parks (VIP) program. This cross-cultural professional development opportunity is the product of many months of work and collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Ghana, U.S. State Department, the National Park Service Office of International Affair, Virgin Islands National Park, and Christiansted National Historic Site.
Consistent with its goal of contributing to a safer, healthier environment for the local community, the National Park Service (NPS) has awarded a contract for the second phase of environmental cleanup work at the Caneel Bay Resort (Site).
Virgin Islands National Park, in partnership with the National Park Service's Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC), is in the process of stabilizing the Cinnamon Bay Danish Warehouse. Thought to have been constructed in the late 17th century, it sustained significant damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017.
